You may remember I called out Ok Go for disabling video embedding for the This Too Shall Pass video. Apparently, their record label’s decision to prohibit others from sharing the video across fine blogs such as this has prompted the lead singer to respond to the community. Reader’s Digest version is he apologizes, the band is talking with their label to allow embedding, and record labels keep trying to survive on an old, increasingly outdated model.

It’s definitely an interesting read as he justifies the record label’s responsibility to their share holders. But let’s be serious, when labels pluck the ripest talent from the internet’s viral videos only to place a chokehold on their content for their monetary gain, something is wacky. Granted, they are funding the band and their music, but a more sensible model must be out there somewhere.
