Is it just me, or did he telegraph that fall?
Prop 10 Results
Well, you’ve probably heard by now. In case you haven’t, Proposal #10 didn’t pass. We put a ton of effort into making this proposal and WGI was generous enough to let me present and defend the proposal in the advisory board meeting this past weekend in Chicago. Despite all the grassroots work we organized and a very passionate presentation and debate, the board ultimately decided (in quite a landslide) that it’s not best for the activity right now.
Without disclosing too much of the discussion that took place in the meeting, I will say that there are many who are passionate about what aging out means and the cyclical process of aging out and teaching.
Interestingly enough, no other significant proposal was passed on the percussion side. I had a feeling prop 3, the proposal to allow staff members to use hand signals to adjust electronic levels, would be a slam dunk. But like Prop 10, there were many who felt differently and managed to make a good argument against the proposal.
Ok, enough serious stuff. This is drumFunny. Not it-took-so-much-work-and-passion-and-even-though-it-didn’t-work-out-I-still-grew-as-an-individual-and-became-richer-for-the-experienceFunny.
I was saving the above video for a special occasion. Ideally, the passing of Proposal 10. But I still think we earned this one, so enjoy.
Banished Beyond at WGI
Here is the latest in the Banished Beyond installments. This was a collaborative project between drumFunny and Banished and we’re both really happy with how it turned out. We’d also like to thank Pearl Drums (not Premier
) for supplying Banished with equipment throughout the WGI weekend. They will also be posting this on their Youtube channel and website in the near future.
Prop. 10 – Proposal To Remove Age Limit In WGI PIW (Poll at the end!!)
Proposal:
Proposal to Remove WGI’s Independent World Class Age Limit
Rationale:
Everyone involved in WGI shares a passion for the activity. Hard work and long hours make each season something very special, year after year. WGI Independent Percussion ensembles consistently innovate and push the activity, and all of its related art forms, at a growing rate.
Yet despite all the activity does to foster growth and innovation in marching percussion, an age-out rule eliminates, every April without fail, one of the activity’s most valuable assets: experienced, passionate performers. (continued)

We’ve had a few people ask for this recording so we figured we’d just post it here for everyone to enjoy:
