Time to finally break the silence.

I’m sorry things have been very quiet around here lately. Between buying a house/moving/work/etc., things have been hectic and projects needed to be re-prioritized. I should have been more open in communicating this from the start. Sorry about that.

drumFunny will be back up and running soon enough. Just bear with me during a brief hiatus. We’re still receiving submissions and planning for some great WGI lot videos in Nashville and Dayton.

Thanks to everyone who has expressed their displeasure

drumFunny is ONE YEAR OLD. Happy Birthday drumFunny!

I remember starting this blog that my goal was to “survive” for three months. And here we are, one year, 369 posts, and hundreds of thousands of views later.

For anyone that has or is operating a blog, you know how much work it is on a day to day basis to keep updates coming. There’s no way I would have kept this up if it wasn’t for the community that has grown around the site. Because the content comes from our viewers and fans, I have you to thank for helping make this site a success.

Keep submitting, keep commenting, keep spreading/linking our content and we should have a healthy and happy 2010.

Good luck to all those in the middle of tryouts and have a freaking’ awesome Holiday!

Well, you’ve probably heard by now. In case you haven’t, Proposal #10 didn’t pass. We put a ton of effort into making this proposal and WGI was generous enough to let me present and defend the proposal in the advisory board meeting this past weekend in Chicago. Despite all the grassroots work we organized and a very passionate presentation and debate, the board ultimately decided (in quite a landslide) that it’s not best for the activity right now.

Without disclosing too much of the discussion that took place in the meeting, I will say that there are many who are passionate about what aging out means and the cyclical process of aging out and teaching. 

Interestingly enough, no other significant proposal was passed on the percussion side. I had a feeling prop 3, the proposal to allow staff members to use hand signals to adjust electronic levels, would be a slam dunk. But like Prop 10, there were many who felt differently and managed to make a good argument against the proposal. 

Ok, enough serious stuff. This is drumFunny. Not it-took-so-much-work-and-passion-and-even-though-it-didn’t-work-out-I-still-grew-as-an-individual-and-became-richer-for-the-experienceFunny. 

I was saving the above video for a special occasion. Ideally, the passing of Proposal 10. But I still think we earned this one, so enjoy.

Hey everyone. I’m flying up to Chicago this afternoon for the WGI Percussion Advisory Board Meetings (I can’t vote as I’m not on the advisory board, but at least I’ll be close to the action). This is the weekend the advisory board will vote on whether or not to remove the age limitation in Percussion Independent World. Just for clarification, even if it passes this weekend, it STILL has to go through the Board of Directors, which won’t happen until mid July. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, click on the big obnoxious picture “10″ in the right column or at the top of this post.

Hey everyone,

You’ll notice a couple new things on the site. Some design and others usability. I’ve gotten a lot of feedback over the past week about how we organize and categorize drumFunny content (thanks for that, btw), so I’ve created a drumFunny favorites section in the sidebar and made changes to the search box. The search box isn’t new, but hopefully it’s a little more clear now. 

We might bring back a reorganized category section, but it will take some rearranging. We’ll see how the new setup works and then go from there. Any feedback you guys have is always welcome.

First, thanks for all the submissions and positive emails you guys have been sending in. It’s nice to know everyone is enjoying the site. 

drumFunny is growing very quickly. The more people who find the site, the more submissions we get. The more submissions we get, the better content we can post. So here’s the deal. When there’s a post you really like, be sure to click on some of the social bookmark links below; especially the Facebook one. This is one of the best ways you can get the word out and share drumFunny site with your friends. If you have a digg account, digg the posts you like. If you’re really web 2.0-y, use del.icio.us and technorati. The more we can spread the word, the better content we’ll have to post.

We’re always open to any feedback you guys have for improving the site. If you have an idea for a video/rudiment/lick/whatever but don’t have the time, let us know and we may be able to make it happen. If there’s a new feature you’d like to see on the site (i.e. forum, merchandise, live video feed of puppies sleeping, etc.) post a comment and get some discussion going.
